Progress for palliative care in Wisbech, as facility renamed the Alan Hudson Day Treatment Centre
Arthur Rank Hospice Charity, has announced that their facility based at North Cambs Hospital will be renamed the ‘Alan Hudson Day Treatment Centre’. The Charity, who took over the management of what was previously known as the ‘Macmillan and Hudson Palliative Care Centre’ in August last year, are responsible for the palliative services on offer through their contract with the Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG).
The day treatment centre has been renamed to reflect established links with the Hudson Foundation and the local area. Its multi-disciplinary palliative care team support people living with a life-limiting illness by delivering a holistic service including: day therapy, treatment and clinical days (including haematology and oncology work), complementary and diversional therapies, bereavement and support services.
It is recognised that the service is outgrowing its current building. Supported by the Local Commissioning Group (LCG) and the North Cambs Hospital, Arthur Rank Hospice Charity plans to enhance services and facilities over the next 12-18 months alongside improving and developing the range of care available to those living with a life-limiting illness in the Wisbech, Fenland and surrounding area. Arthur Rank Hospice also delivers Hospice at Home in the Wisbech area, so it is hoped that the improvements will allow them to have a local base.
The plans, which have been supported by Macmillan Cancer Support, will allow Macmillan Cancer Support to focus their efforts on their services at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Kings Lynn and Peterborough City Hospital: both of which may also be accessed by patients from the Wisbech area as part of their treatment.
As the Alan Hudson Day Treatment Centre grows to keep pace with demand, fundraising and the development of critical stakeholder relationships will become increasingly important. Phillippa Ashcroft has joined the eight person team as Project Development Officer: a move which now enables the clinical staff to concentrate on patient care. Anyone interested in raising funds for the work of the Alan Hudson Day Treatment Centre, volunteering their time to support its activities, are invited to call the Fundraising Office, 01223 723115 or by emailing email@example.com
