New Chair for the Arthur Rank Hospice Charity

The Arthur Rank Hospice Charity, which recently won the Cambridge News Business Excellence Award for Social Entrepreneurship of the year, has announced the departure of their Chair of Trustees, Stuart Evans a well known local entrepreneur. Having become a trustee two years earlier, Stuart Evans was in post as Chair for eight years, and had the ideal experience to support the organisation to grow, become independent and build a new state-of-the-art £10.6 million hospice.

At a dinner hosted in the Bistro of the new hospice to mark his own departure and the departure of Andy Swarbrick and Ed Coe, who had served ten and seven years respectively at Trustees of the Charity.

Stuart said, ‘I am very sad to be leaving the charity but it has been enormously rewarding to see the way the charity has developed over the last ten years and I am proud to have been part of that. The new hospice is a wonderful facility for Cambridgeshire and will for many years to come make a tremendous difference to people at a time in their life when they most need the care and facilities of a well designed hospice.  I know that the staff and the wonderful army of volunteers at Arthur Rank will continue to put the patients at the core of everything they do and that Isabel Napper will be an excellent new chair to lead the hospice through to further success.’

The evening also provided the perfect opportunity to welcome the charity’s new Chair of Trustees Isabel Napper.  Isabel is another highly regarded Cambridge figure, a skilled lawyer and for many years a partner at Mills and Reeve, latterly founder of the business strategy consultancy: GreyWired.com.

On acceptance of the position, Isabel said “I’m delighted and indeed honoured to be appointed Chair of the Trustees. I appreciate that Stuart Evans has left some rather large shoes to fill but I’m looking forward to working with the Hospice to assist it in its exciting future at the new site”.

Dr Lynn Morgan, Chief Executive, said “It is tremendously sad to see our Chair and some of our trustees leave, but we are delighted that we have achieved so much in the last few years with their support.  In addition to Isabel, Lee Maughan from Push Energy Limited, Liz Winter, Director of Development at Corpus Christi and Dr Arnold Fertig, well known retired Cambridge GP, have joined our ranks.  We look forward to the next phase of our development.”

The Trustee Board now comprises a total of 12 trustees to support the Chair each with a wealth of experience from their varying and successful backgrounds from healthcare to accountancy and law to speech therapy.
