Stonegate Spartans aim to raise £100k for Noah’s Ark
A 300-strong army of Spartan warriors will be marching to central London on 30 July in an effort to raise an amazing £100,000 for Noah’s Ark.
The Spartans, all employees of Stonegate Pubs, will set off on their 12-mile hike from the Danson Stables in Bexleyheath, finishing at The Alice in Aldgate. Everyone taking part will be kitted out in full Spartan dress.
Eighty of Stonegate Pubs’ 147 premises across the South East have signed up so far and are individually raising money towards the grand total. The pub which collects the most will be awarded a trophy – along with the glory of being top Spartans!
Cee-Jay Williams from The Gatehouse, Tonbridge said: “I was asked by my area manager to help organise the event for our divisional area, and I am always happy to take on a challenge if it helps out the fellow Spartans.
“Ruthless determination and drive is what makes me a true Spartan! I’m confident that myself and the team will finish at the top!”
However, with so many Spartans signing up, he might not find it as easy as he thinks – Jay Biver from the Three Pigeons in Guildford told us: “We are physically and mentally prepared for the march. Old gym trainers have made an appearance, the outfits have been purchased and are ready to go. All we need now is to raise those funds and get out on the battle field.”
Meanwhile Stonegate pubs across the South East are busy organising their own fundraising drives. James Nassour from The Whittington Stone in Highgate said: “We are looking to hold a theme night and to work with the fire and ambulance services to plan a kids’ theme day. We want to raise as much as possible.”
The Fatling Pub in Hornchurch held its famous Bank Holiday weekend music festival, 26 to 29 May. Sandy Castle from the pub said: “We were rocking it loud and proud in aid of Noah’s Ark, with 40 staff all wearing fundraising t-shirts and rattling buckets.” The event raised £1,200 and the pub is aiming for £2,000 in total by the end of summer.
