Joshua (and Becky Bear's) South Coast Challenge
Joshua Hamilton recently did the South Coast Challenge to raise money for Cynthia Spencer Hospice in memory of his Mum. To keep her close to him while he took on this mammoth 100km trek, he had her teddy bear, Becky with him the whole way. Joshua recalls: "She was admired by many, and was a great conversation starter amongst other participants!"
Lucky with the weather and able to appreciate some fantastic views along the way, Joshua told us how much he enjoyed the challenge: "The atmosphere was lovely, everybody there was really nice and I would often chat with people along the journey, morale amongst the participants was high which is always a bonus."
Though he struggled with trekking through the night, not helped by wearing running shoes, rather than hiking boots, he marched on and got to 78km when unfortunately he slipped and sprained his ankle. Determined to soldier on he made it to the 80km marker but had to admit defeat: "I'm gutted to have not been able to slug away at those final 20km, but I'm still happy to have been able to hit the 80km mark nonetheless!" (the ankle is doing fine now fortunately!)
He concluded: "Overall it was a great event, hard work but cathartic, and made rewarding knowing that donations are going to a very worthy cause."
Well done Joshua and thank you from everyone at the hospice!
