Atrium event marks another milestone for Noah’s Ark

Last week, Noah’s Ark celebrated the erection of the oak frame for their new hospice building’s focal point – the atrium. Following on from their First Brick event in March, they invited supporters, volunteers and partners to see The Ark taking shape.

The atrium of The Ark will be a communal area with natural light, windows looking out onto the nature reserve and a warm welcoming environment. It will feature a café and seating areas where parents can meet each other for a chat over a coffee and slice of cake.

The event was held in glorious sunshine and gave staff and volunteers an opportunity to have a guided tour of the site and get more of a feel for how The Ark will look when finished. It’s a lot bigger than it looks on the plans! The oak frame, constructed by Carpenter Oak, is impressive and helped to envisage the completed hub section of the hospice.

They welcomed neighbours to the event, as well as community supporters and partners. It provided an opportunity for our Community Ambassadors to see the site and understand more about the building. It was a great afternoon and we look forward to our next milestone to again welcome you all to The Ark.

Louiza Charalambous is a brand new addition to the Noah’s Ark team – she recently joined as a Community Ambassador and came along last week to learn more about The Ark. She said, “Friday was a truly inspiring and informative event; the positive and motivating atmosphere created by Noah’s Ark staff, volunteers and guests reinforced my personal commitment all the more. We all need to collectively work together to, among other creative ways of supporting, help build The Ark and provide a joyful place of support for the children and families.”

Irene Blaston from Radlett Reform – which raised £4,000 for Noah’s Ark in 2016 – came to the site along with her husband Lawrence. She said, “It was wonderful to see many years of planning and hard work coming to fruition in this much-needed facility for North and Central London. We were delighted to play a small part in the fundraising.”

Amanda Markey, Client Manager from Love Your Doorstep said, “I was absolutely blown away by the day.  It really opened my eyes to just how life-changing The Ark will be for those seriously unwell children in our community.  The whole site where the hospice is being built is so peaceful and calming and to see it in the final stages of the build was simply amazing!”
