The J's Hospice Dragon Boat Festival took place in Chelmsford City Centre on Sunday 26th July and, despite the disappointing wet weather, was hailed as a huge success by racers and spectators alike.
Teams of 10 paddlers plus a drummer battled it out in ornate 30 foot Chinese Dragon Boats over a 200m course on the River Chelmer at Backnang Square. Spectators came out to cheer their teams on and had great fun down by the river bank.
With fierce competition on the river, eight teams battled fought to see who the fastest and most accomplished rowers were. Some teams exchanged speed for style and arrived wearing the most eye-catching costumes. The racers themselves were all enthusiastic, driven and thoroughly wet by the end of the day.
The J's Hospice is still awaiting the final total raised and thanks the amazing community support and involvement with the event.
