Birmingham Hospice

Birmingham Hospice

Birmingham Hospice is the new name for John Taylor Hospice, in Erdington and Birmingham St Mary’s Hospice, in Selly Park. To find out more information about the merged hospices, please read the information here.

Now unified under one name, Birmingham Hospice, they care for more people than ever before. Their patients are at the heart of everything they do and have been throughout their combined 157-year history. From caring for those in their Inpatient Units, to providing vital day services in their Living Well Centres, and supporting families with personalised bereavement counselling, they take care of the community when they need them most.

  • They care for around 1,000 patients on average every day across their services.
  • Each year, they need to raise £5.5 million through fundraising activity, income from their shops and voluntary donations to cover the costs of running the hospice.
  • Last year, 571 patients were cared for in their Inpatient Units by their expert doctors and nurses.
  • Last year, 1,312 patients attended their Living Well Centres to help them live well with their illness.
  • Last year, their Wellbeing Team made more than 5,000 contacts with people to offer vital pre- and post-bereavement support to both adults and children connected to the hospice.
  • 89p in every £1 raised is spent on clinical and support services.

From your very first game, you will raise vital funds that will support people in your local community living with a terminal diagnosis. Some examples of what your contribution could pay for are:

  • £20 Could buy a teddy bear with a recording of a loved one’s voice for a bereaved child to treasure as a keepsake.
  • £38 Could pay for one hour of Living Well Centre services, supporting people to live well, manage their symptoms and take part in therapeutic activities.
  • £53 Could pay for a bereavement support session to help a family member cope with the loss of a loved one.
  • £84 Could pay for a community nurse to visit someone at home, helping them manage their symptoms and coordinating their care.
