Fundraising by staff, has enabled product design and development firm Cambridge Consultants to give a £35,000 donation to the local Arthur Rank Hospice Charity. The money will pay for more than 130 nights of care for patients in Cambridgeshire with life-limiting illnesses – through the charity’s Hospice at Home service.
The money was raised through a year of activities including a monthly cake trolley, regular bacon roll sales and participation in the Cambridge Half Marathon – which alone brought in £2,886. Cambridge Consultants then matched the amount raised by its staff.
“We are very grateful for the generous donation given by Cambridge Consultants,” said Andrea Murauskas, corporate fundraiser at the Arthur Rank Hospice Charity. “The money will help to fund our Hospice at Home service, through which our nurses and specialists provide hands-on care overnight to patients, typically in the last stages of life when they and their families need the greatest level of support. The fundraising was a huge success and will make a tremendous difference to the lives of so many patients and their families.”
Patients who are in the final stages of their lives often want to be cared for in the privacy and comfort of their own homes, while still requiring specialised teams of nurses and therapists to care for their needs. Arthur Rank Hospice Charity has seen the number of its at-home patients more than double in the past four years.
The Hospice at Home team administers prescribed medicines to patients, offers psychological support, and arranges complimentary therapist appointments and chaplain visits, as well as providing pre- and post-bereavement support for families and friends.
“Each year our staff vote for a ‘charity of the year’ and we’ve taken great pleasure in raising money this time for the Arthur Rank Hospice Charity,” said Louise James, head of the charity team at Cambridge Consultants. “We’re all delighted we’ve been able to help support its valuable Hospice at Home service as it provides comfort and care to those who need it most. We are very proud of the generosity of our employees – and their determination to make a difference in our community.”
