Hospice chosen as company’s Charity of the Year

A Birmingham company has pulled out all the stops in its efforts to raise nearly £25,000 for John Taylor Hospice.

A Birmingham company has pulled out all the stops in its efforts to raise nearly £25,000 for John Taylor Hospice.

Connect Distribution Services Ltd, based in Small Heath Business Park, has donated £24,815 to the hospice that they have chosen as their Charity of the Year.

It’s the fifth year running that the company – who specialise in home appliances and spare parts distribution – have backed the hospice by organising fundraising events, competitions and fun activities.

From taking on a 15km hike through the Peak District to completing an inflatable obstacle course, the dedication of staff has paid off as this latest donation boosts their five-year fundraising total to just over £80,000.

Company Training Manager Paul Renhard (pictured top left) said: “As well as taking part in events we’ve held raffles, quizzes, dress down days and asked for donations instead of sending Christmas cards. The total amount raised by staff has been match funded by our Board of Directors.

“The benefits for us are two-fold; it feels great to be able to help such a wonderful charitable cause and we’re closer as a team because of it. We continue to support John Taylor Hospice year-on-year because we’ve built up great relationships. When we bring in the cheque we see that donations are very much appreciated and we know that the money goes towards making a real difference to families.”

For Connect’s Management Accountant Caroline Day, raising money for John Taylor Hospice has personal significance as her mother Kathy Day was cared for by hospice staff in 2008.

“There is so much more to hospice care than people realise,” explains Caroline. “It was only when we began to fundraise for John Taylor and I shared my personal experience with colleagues that we started to realise just how many families they have cared over the years. It’s a vital community service that helps hundreds of people every month and we’ll continue to support the hospice as much as we can.”

Hospice Corporate Fundraising Manager Natalie Mayo added: “Connect Distribution remain so committed in their fundraising efforts. This contribution is the equivalent of running the hospice services for almost two full days and really does making a huge difference to patients and their loved ones.
