The St Helena Hospice annual Pier to Pier walk was another huge success with a fantastic turn out on Sunday. Supporters from all over north east Essex congregated at either Clacton or Walton piers at 10am to complete a sponsored seven or 14 mile walk in support of the hospice.
There was a huge buzz at both piers on the day with 250 supporters starting at Walton pier and 680 at Clacton, and they expect to have raised in excess of £70,000 from the day. Every penny supporters raise from taking part in the walk can really make a difference; by raising £40 supporters could provide a family with a support session to help them deal with changes they are facing since losing a loved on.
Wendy Marcon, Events and Challenges Manager at St Helena Hospice said: “We are delighted that once again, over 900 people joined us to take part in the Pier to Pier Walk. It was an amazing day with families and friends and even their dogs coming together to enjoy a day out at the seaside to support St Helena Hospice. On behalf of all staff, volunteers and patients I’d like to say a big thank you to everyone who took on the challenge and helped raise money to support people who really need our help.”
We largely rely on fundraisers like those who took part in this event to raise the £5.8 million needed each year to care for people who need support from our services. The sponsorship raised from this event will really be a great help to the hospice.
Walkers can bring in their sponsorship money to the events team or send a cheque to the Fundraising Office, 1 – 4 The Atrium, Phoenix Square, Colchester CO4 9AS; they can also choose to pay over the phone by credit or debit cards on 01206 931468.
