On the move

Staff at Weldmar Hospicecare are preparing to move premises as they look to relocate their offices, Hammick House in Poundbury.

Staff at Weldmar Hospicecare are preparing to move premises as they look to relocate their offices, Hammick House in Poundbury.

The staff within the building will be moving to Trimar Hospice in Greenhill, Weymouth, so their support services, patients and community staff will be joined by their Finance, Fundraising, Marketing and People Services teams.

Trimar is used as a Day Services building for the Weymouth and Portland area offering support to patients in the last year or so of their lives. Patients are involved in a variety of activities such as games, creative therapy and even complementary therapy if required. The building also currently houses a team of Weldmar’s Community Nurses who support patients in the comfort of their own homes.

A decision was made earlier this year to close Hammick House in Poundbury and move all their back office support services to join their team in Trimar.

Caroline Hamblett, Chief Executive of Weldmar said ”We are in a very fortunate position that year on year, we are giving care and support to more and more patients and their families throughout Dorset.  However, demand for our services continues to grow and we wish to meet the needs of as many people as possible. With some reorganisations we have made in the last two years we now have space at both Hammick House in Poundbury and Trimar in Weymouth. We have made the decision to move our Hammick House staff to the Trimar building to join our Day Services and Community Nursing teams.  This will enable us to fully utilise the Trimar building and have our support services, patients and community staff all together. This change will not adversely affect our Day Services or our community team who will continue to operate from Trimar.”

Weldmar Hospicecare are looking to rent out Hammick House in Poundbury, a building which was inherited by the charity when merged with Cancer Care Dorset between 2003-2004. Since then, the building has always been owned by Weldmar and now feels the right time to move.

Caroline said “The rental income from Hammick House will help fund our services in Dorset including the new 24/7 helpline for patients and their families launching this year, as well as growth in our specialist community nursing provision. Weldmar Hospicecare are sad to be leaving Poundbury but feel the revenue we will receive from the rent of the property will enable us to continue to grow our services as demand is continuing to rise.”

Weldmar Hospicecare will continue to have a presence within Dorchester with Joseph Weld Hospice, their inpatient, unit where patients are cared for 24 hours a day. Weldmar also has a chain of 26 charity shops and outlets throughout the county which help provide vital income to keep the services running. There is no date set yet for the office move but it is expected to happen during 2018.
