“We counted them all out, and we’ve counted them all back.”
St Helena Hospice is happy to report that their amazing team of 14 Sahara trekkers have all safely returned after the adventure of a lifetime.
Other than a few blisters, the group remained injury-free throughout their trip, which they report was full of laughter. One evening around the camp fire was particularly magical for Wendy Marcon (Team Leader, Volunteer Services) who was surprised when the local support team made a birthday cake for her and her fellow trekkers sang to her under the stars.
Everyone, it’s fair to say, returned with memories that will last a lifetime.
Accompanied by expert Berber guides and caravans, the group walked across the Moroccan desert for three days, raising over £25,000. The route took them across boulder-strewn plains, rocky river beds, and not a few sand dunes.
Starting at the small oasis town of Tazzerine, they finished at the remote town of Taghbalt having experienced some breathtaking desert scenery and spectacular star-filled skies.
It’s fair to say the group now know each other really well after living, eating and sleeping in close proximity and several are considering their next adventurous overseas walk together.
