Silence, song and a lot of 2ps make Goodwyn School stars of the day

Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospice is celebrating Goodwyn School Mill Hill, who are keeping the hospice afloat.

Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospice is celebrating Goodwyn School  Mill Hill, who are keeping the hospice afloat. The school collected an amazing £5,000 through a 90-minute sponsored silence, and a range of innovative fundraising ideas.

It takes £4,658 each day to fund Noah’s Ark. Raise or donate this much, and you can choose the day of the year you’d like the charity to recognize your achievement on their website and on social media.

School Principal Struan Robertson commented: “The children took it very seriously.  So much so, it amazed us all, but they knew the outcome would benefit all those who were being helped by Noah’s Ark.  They certainly rose to the challenge.”

Mr Robertson explained how the school got together with Noah’s Ark: “The charity came to the fore at our Speech Day [last term] when the guest speaker, Judge Rinder, inspired all present with his sincere message.  He let it slip that he was an active supporter of Noah’s Ark and we offered to try and raise some money when we returned to school in the autumn.

“On the day of the silence we also tried to cover a giant ark with two pence coins (two by two).  Our choir sang for the parents at going home time.  The younger children had the opportunity to join in by making a cardboard model of an ark, or even a model out of Lego.

“They brought in their cuddly animals to school.  All in all, a busy day, especially taking the 6,195 two pence coins to the bank!”

Noah’s Ark would like to say a big thank you to all the children, staff and parents who took part in this massive effort – your enthusiasm, dedication and ability to keep quiet are really impressive!
