Supporters have a ball raising money for local families

More than 200 guests donned their smart suits and fancy frocks as John Taylor Hospice hosted its first ever annual ball.

More than 200 guests donned their smart suits and fancy frocks as John Taylor Hospice hosted its first ever annual ball.

The masquerade-themed black tie event, held at The Belfry Hotel and Resort, was a huge success – raising thousands of pounds to provide specialist care for people living with a terminal illness and their families.

Arriving at the award-winning venue, ball guests walked the red carpet and posed for the cameras before raising a celebratory toast at the dazzling prosecco reception. Dressed to impress, ticket-holders took to their seats in the Woodland Suite to hear opening addresses from John Taylor’s CEO Penny Venables and Chair Harry Turner, before enjoying a three course meal and live entertainment.

Guests at the Birmingham-based hospice’s inaugural ball were also in with the chance to get their hands on superb raffle and auction prizes including tickets to the 2018 Aegon Championship, a week’s stay in Western Algarve, hospitality packages to Birmingham City Football Club and Aston Villa Football Club games, spa breaks, signed sporting memorabilia, off-road driving experiences, a helicopter discovery day and theatre tickets.

Ball organiser Natalie Mayo, who is John Taylor’s Corporate Fundraising Manager, said: “It was an evening of fabulous company, delicious food and wonderful entertainment! We are thrilled that our first ever ball was such a resounding success and a huge thank you to everyone who dug deep to support us.

Thank you to our sponsors, our supporters, our guests and our volunteers for their generosity and hard work – you’ve all helped to make this a special occasion and together we’ve raised thousands of pounds to support local families.

“Patients and their families regularly tell us they don’t know how they’d have coped without the care and support of our staff and volunteers. Our services are free to patients and their loved ones, but it costs £15,000 every day to provide this care, so funds raised from our Masquerade Ball really will make a massive difference.”

Julia Gray, Sutton Coldfield Chamber manager, said: “It was a fantastic night with an electrifying atmosphere. The band – House of Chords – were brilliant. We are so happy to support John Taylor Hospice and to be part of such an inspirational event.”
